Your child’s homework this year

Your child will have a Times Tables Rock Stars log-in stuck into the front of their reading record – just 3 minutes a day on this is the ‘magic number’ to help your child to make progress with their times tables. This is vital in every year group. Year 3 children will not receive their log-in until they have practised logging in at school. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you are not able to access TTRS at home.

Every child is expected to be reading at home each week – see below for more guidance.

A home learning sheet will be sent home each half term – your child can choose some challenges from here to consolidate their learning about other areas of the curriculum. These are also posted on the Year Group Pages of our website.

If you have a child in Year 5 or 6, their teacher will be in contact later in the year about additional homework in these year groups.

There will be no spelling sheets sent home this year.

Reading at home

• Your child will bring home a reading record and a reading scheme book. This book has been carefully chosen by their teacher to match their current reading level. Please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance if you have any queries about this.

• All children are expected to read with an adult at home at least 3 times per week. There is a sheet stuck into their reading record with some discussion questions for the term, but any reading and discussion is incredibly worthwhile. There are also some challenge words on this sheet which your child needs to learn to read, understand and spell this term (they will also be practising these in school).

• Please sign your child’s reading record at least once a week so that the teacher knows that you are up-to-date with your child’s reading. Reading records will also be checked by your child’s teacher weekly.

• Please do not use the reading record to convey urgent messages to your child's class teacher, as they may not see it in time – use email or telephone. Class teacher's email addresses can be found on the Year Group Pages.
