Student Council Aims of the Student CouncilAt Manor Junior School we are very proud of our Student Council. The council consist of two members per class (24 overall). The members are democratically elected at the beginning of each academic year. If a pupil wishes to be their class’ student councillor they give a short presentation to the class about how they will represent the pupil’s points of views, improve the school.... the two children with the highest number of votes become the councillors. It is a secret ballot. As a council we aim to meet at least once a fortnight. The chairperson and secretary draw up an agenda prior to the meeting then type up the minutes. The councillors report back to their own classes after every meeting and record responses to news/questions/ideas ready to present at the next meeting. This is also a time for all pupils to have a voice. We, at Manor, feel it is exceptionally important for there to be a two-way communication between staff and pupils. Once a term, representatives of the student council report to the Governors by attending evening Governor meetings. The council also allows outside agencies, such as the landscape architect and Hampshire caterers, to access pupils’ views. This year we aim to continue to help develop playtime improvements and consider how we can help our environment through recycling. Other issues will be discussed though our meetings on an on-going basis. Miss Torbet, Link teacher Minutes of last meeting HERE Agenda for next meeting HERE
